Launched on 1 January 2015, the Express Entry system is the a new electronic program meant for processing the PR (permanent resident) applications under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class. Skilled foreign workers who wish to immigrate to Canada can apply under these categories if they meet the specific requirements under each of the program. Those who perfectly meet the criteria listed in any of the programs will be allowed to enter the express entry pool after they make an express entry profile.

Once the applications reach the pool, they are evaluated on various factors and given points out of a total of 1200.  Out of these total points, 600 points are awarded for factors like language skills, age, education, work experience, etc. The additional 600 points are given to candidates who have an existing job offer or provincial nomination. Based upon the obtained scores, candidates are ranked in the Express entry pool. Those with the highest points are selected by the CIC and invited to apply for Canadian Immigration as permanent residents.

So, far there have been 10 rounds of invitations. The last (10th) round of invitation was on June 12, 2015, under which the CRS score of lowest ranked candidate invited was 482 and the CIC issued 1,501 candidates in the express entry pool.
