Light Festival of Sydney

The city of Sydney is transformed into a canvas of light, music and ideas each year when Vivid Sydney festival takes over the city. The festival includes the illumination of Sydney Opera House sails along with coloring the city with creativity and inspiration. It also includes performances from local and international musicians at Sydney Opera House and the exchange of ideas through public talks and debates by leading global creative thinkers.

People enjoy the mild weather of Sydney along with their friends and family and take advantage of the gathering of renowned artists, corporate professionals and intellectuals for 18 days.

The Sydney Opera house this time got a multi-colored makeover as it lit up the night sky on the opening ceremony for the Vivid Sydney festival in 3-D. The sails of the iconic building lit up with the clown’s faces and leopard skin on it. The dazzling display of light danced across its roof. The largest festival of light, music and ideas in southern hemisphere opened for the fifth time on this weekend.

This time, the renowned Opera House was illuminated in a 3-D mapped ‘visual feast’ of lighting artistry by Australian creative innovators. This festival of ideas is expected to attract over 550,000 people before it ends on June 10th. Vivid is all about illuminating Sydney’s crisp and clear winter night.

In 2009, the inaugural Vivid Sydney festival attracted 200,000 people to The Rocks and Circular Quay. New South Wales Minister for tourism Jodi Mckay stated that Vivid portrays Sydney as the major creative hub in the Asia-pacific region by highlighting the diverse talent of Sydney’s creative industries. She also stated that Sydney’s Macquarie Street, the site of Australia’s first parliament, will also be brought to life with large scale light installations and projections.

The tourism ministry of New South Wales plans to make this event larger since there will be 30 different live street performances including fire dancers, stilt walkers, illuminated entertainers and more. The light artistry part of the festival, Vivid light, has tripled since last year. Now, one-third of the lightning installations are created by international artists from US, Germany, Italy, Greece, Malaysia, Korea, Poland, Brazil and New Zealand.

Visas Simply wishes you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year. Last year we received thousands of applications by individuals who wanted to various countries in search of a good life.
