  • To attain a Student visa of New Zealand applicants need to get an offer of placement from a New Zealand education provider and the course should also be approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
  • The applicant is required to satisfy certain health and character requirements and the candidate can be asked to undergo a medical examination and/or a police clearance certificate.
  • The applicant will need to show evidence of funds to support themselves while he/she is studying in New Zealand.
  • If the course chosen lasts for less than nine months, the candidate will need to show:
      • NZ$1000 for each month of stay, or
      • NZ$400 for each month, if the accommodation is already paid for (the candidate will need to show the receipt of payment),

    Or

    • A letter from the education provider stating that the accommodation and other living costs are included in the package that has been paid.
    • If the course chosen lasts for more than nine months the candidate will need to show that they have access to:
      • NZ $10,000 per year to cover costs during the stay in New Zealand.

      Note: Evidence of funds may be in the form of cash, travellers cheque, bank drafts, or a recognized credit card with enough credit.

  • The candidate will need to prove that he/she will leave New Zealand when at completion of course of study. The department will require evidence of how the candidate will leave New Zealand. For example, returns air ticket or that much amount of money extra in your account.
  • The candidate must have a passport that is valid for at least three months past the end of the intended stay.
  • The candidate may have to be accompanied by a guardian (parent or legal guardian), who will come to New Zealand with him/her. The candidate will need a guardian if he/she is enrolled in years 1 to 8 of a school, or a student aged 13 or under and enrolled in a private training establishment.
  • After the candidate submits the required documental proofs along with the application, New Zealand immigration department may grant you a Student Visa.

What can I do with this visa?

  • If you are granted a New Zealand study visa, you are allowed to study in the country for the proposed course time and also work up to 20 hours a week (for full-time fee paying students).
  • Your family can apply to accompany you, depending on the course you opt for.
  • Once you have finished your studies successfully you are entitled for a work permit in New Zealand under various programs.
