Global Business Mobility – Senior or Specialist Worker Visa (Updated 2025-2026)

Note: The Tier 2 (Intra-company Transfer) visa was replaced by the Global Business Mobility routes in April 2022. The main replacement is the Senior or Specialist Worker visa.

The Global Business Mobility routes allow overseas businesses to transfer workers to the UK. There are several sub-categories under this route:

Senior or Specialist Worker

For established employees being transferred to a UK branch of their organisation in a senior management or specialist role. Minimum salary: GBP 48,500. Maximum stay: 5 years (or 9 years for high earners above GBP 73,900). Fee: GBP 719 (up to 3 years) or GBP 1,420 (over 3 years).

Graduate Trainee

For recent graduates being transferred to a UK branch as part of a structured graduate training programme leading to a managerial or specialist role. Minimum salary: GBP 24,220. Maximum stay: 12 months.

UK Expansion Worker

For senior managers or specialist employees being transferred to the UK to establish a new UK branch of an overseas business. Maximum stay: 12 months (extendable to 2 years).

Service Supplier

For contractual service suppliers or independent professionals providing services under certain international trade agreements.

Secondment Worker

For workers being seconded to the UK as part of a high-value contract or investment by their overseas employer.

Immigration Health Surcharge: GBP 1,035 per year applies to all Global Business Mobility visa holders.

To be eligible for a Tier 2 (Intra-company Transfer) visa, you must have:

  • certificate of sponsorship reference number
  • an ‘appropriate’ salary
  • at least £945 in savings to support yourself

To be eligible for the Tier 2 (Intra Company transfer) you must visa service the position which the employer is seeking to fill must meet National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 3 or above. Furthermore, if the candidate is a member of a specific profession they may be required to be registered with the appropriate governing body.

For example, a doctor must be registered with the General Medical Council. In addition, a selected candidate must have a level of knowledge that is

The candidate must have one of the following:

  • A relevant degree
  • A non-relevant degree and one year of experience
  • No degree and three years of relevant experience

The employee for whom the ICT is being sought must have been employed by the overseas company for a period of six months or more prior to the application. Documentary evidence of this relationship must be produced before visas of this class can be issued.

A spouse/unmarried partner will be permitted to join an ICT holder on a dependency visa providing that they will cohabit with the holder of the Intra-Company Transfer visa.

In the case of an unmarried partner, they must be able to prove that the relationship has been in existence for at least two years prior to making the application for ICT.

Spouse immigration under this type of visa is granted as a temporary measure. Unlike a marriage visa or De Facto visa, commonly referred to as an Unmarried partner visa, ICT’s do not provide a route for you or your spouse to obtain settled status.
