UK Immigration (Updated 2025-2026)

Following Brexit, the UK has implemented a new points-based immigration system that applies equally to EU and non-EU citizens.

Key Updates for 2025-2026: The UK has made significant changes to its immigration system. The minimum salary threshold for the Skilled Worker visa has been increased to GBP 38,700 (up from GBP 26,200). The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) has been increased to GBP 1,035 per year (GBP 776 for students and under-18s). The Graduate visa route allows international students to stay and work for 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates) after completing their studies.

UK Visa Categories

  • Skilled Worker visa: For workers with a job offer from a UK employer (replaced Tier 2 General). Minimum salary: GBP 38,700 or the going rate for the occupation, whichever is higher
  • Health and Care Worker visa: Reduced fees for eligible health and care workers. Exempt from IHS
  • Global Talent visa: For leaders or potential leaders in academia, research, arts, culture, or digital technology
  • Innovator Founder visa: For experienced business people wanting to set up an innovative business in the UK (replaced Tier 1 Entrepreneur)
  • Student visa: For international students accepted onto a course at a licensed student sponsor. Fee: GBP 490
  • Youth Mobility Scheme: For young people aged 18-30 from participating countries to live and work in the UK for up to 2 years. Fee: GBP 298
  • Graduate visa: For international students who have completed a degree in the UK
  • Family visas: For partners, children, and parents of British citizens or settled persons

The UK’s points-based immigration system requires applicants to score a minimum number of points based on specific characteristics such as job offer, salary level, English language ability, and qualifications.
