The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC, formerly CIC), John McCallum, in his latest statement declared that the Canadian government is planning to bring about changes, which will grant permanent residence to the sponsored spouses & partner of Canadians on their immediate arrival in Canada.

The change comes as a relief to the sponsored common-law or conjugal partners, who are in a two year or less relationship with their partner/sponsor and don’t have any children with their sponsoring partner. Currently, spouses, common-law or conjugal partners receive conditional permanent residence upon arrival their arrival Canada and it is only after two years that they can obtain full permanent resident status.

Mr. McCallum also stated that the processing time for the applications will be brought down.
